Are teachers safe?:Student shares deep thoughts on teachers stake in Cameroon

Teachers are supposed to have the first class statues in the society because they train, mentor and grow Presidents, doctors, engineers, Ministers, leaders of today and tomorrow. But it is rather unfortunate that the teaching job is considered by others to be a little job do no importance, a job done by those who have failed in life not knowing that a teacher has a greater impact on us. We are what and who we are today thanks to teachers.

In Cameroon, teachers are not been backed up by their jobs. It is not hard to see teachers striking because of unpaid salaries, even when paid, it is not complete and they have to bribe at times before getting their teaching bonuses. A teacher just died of recent in the Northern region of Cameroon after teaching for good ten years without salaries. It is just but normal for a parent to insult a teacher. Students pick up fights with their teachers, insult, threaten, stab and even kill teachers, but nothing is done nor said. The insecurity of teachers from both angles is the rise.

Will nations be great if the builders of nations are not looked upon as great people?

Until we change the way we look at teachers, our education system will keep producing people/leaders that will look down on teachers. Teachers should be given their place in the society as the most important people.
